Looking put together and feeling it!
Some days I wake up feeling like a slightly deflated potato sack… not even a fresh one—like the one that’s been sitting in the pantry judging you. 😬
But here’s the thing: life does not pause just because I’d prefer to dramatically flop back into bed and avoid humanity. There are errands. There is posting. There is functioning (rude, honestly).
So what do I do?
Well… full honesty? There have been days I’ve gone out exactly as I woke up and frightened the general public. I do not recommend this approach unless you’re trying to clear a grocery aisle quickly.
Instead, I’ve learned a little trick: I fake my way into feeling better.
Step one: shower (non-negotiable… for me and everyone else).
Step two: makeup—not perfection, just enough to remind my face we’re participating in society.
Step three: a real outfit. Not “I give up” leggings (you know the ones). I mean something that fits, flatters, and says, “Yes, I am a person with intentions.”
Step four: accessories—earrings, maybe a necklace, and an actual purse instead of the “wallet + phone clutched like survival gear” look.
And while all this magic is happening, I press play on my “It’s Going to Be a Good Day” playlist—which is basically therapy with a beat.
We’re talking:
✨ September – Earth, Wind & Fire (because obviously)
✨ I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor (dramatic hairbrush mic optional)
✨ Smooth – Santana & Rob Thomas (instant attitude adjustment)
There are about 278 more songs, but let’s be honest—I’m not getting ready long enough to become a backup dancer.
And somewhere between the mascara and the chorus, something shifts. I stand a little taller. I feel a little more human. Maybe even… optimistic? Who is she.
Lately, I’ve noticed it’s gotten easier. Losing some weight has helped—not because of a number, but because my clothes fit better. My pants don’t argue with me anymore. They cooperate. They flatter. They let my long legs (my best feature, thank you very much) do their thing.
And that’s really the secret:
👉 Find what you love about yourself and lean into it.
Great legs? Show them off.
Love your arms? Sleeveless it is.
Cute smile? Lipstick and go.
It’s not about perfection—it’s about working with what you’ve got and celebrating it.
Because here’s the truth:
There is always a way to feel better.
Sometimes it’s:
☕ good coffee
🎶 good music
👗 a great outfit
🌿 fresh air
👯♀️ a good friend
And sometimes… it’s just deciding you’re not staying a potato sack today.
So the next time you wake up feeling like one, do one small thing—then another. Turn on the music. Put on the outfit. Step into the day anyway.
Because feeling better doesn’t always come first…
Sometimes you have to start moving, and it follows
