What to drink if you want to 🙃

So… do you ever really stop and think about what you’re drinking all day? Not just what, but how often—and why?

If I’m being honest, I’m a total creature of habit. Mornings? It’s coffee first (non-negotiable ☕), then water because I know I should balance things out. Afternoons usually bring iced tea or my one beloved Diet Pepsi (don’t judge 😄). Evenings at home are mostly water… but if I’m out? Oh, then we’re talking a nice glass of wine or a really good beer—because yes, I fully admit it, I’m a bit of a wine and beer snob.

But here’s the thing I’ve started to notice more as I’ve gotten older… what we drink actually matters a lot more than we used to think.

Back in the day, you could get away with running on caffeine and vibes. Now? Not so much. Now it’s like your body gently (or not so gently) taps you on the shoulder and says, “Hey… maybe a little more water would be nice.” And it’s right.

Hydration isn’t just about quenching thirst anymore—it’s about everything. Your skin, your digestion, your energy, even how “awake” you look in the mirror. You can spend all the money you want on skincare, but if you’re not drinking enough water? It shows.

And then there’s the “extras” we didn’t think much about before—like calcium (hello, milk or fortified options), or probiotic drinks to keep things moving along (because let’s be real… digestion becomes a whole new conversation as we age 😬😜).

And alcohol? Oh yes… that one changes too. What used to be “just a glass” now hits a little harder, lingers a little longer, and reminds you the next day that moderation is no longer optional—it’s essential. Doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it (because we absolutely should!), but it does mean being a bit more mindful.

I think the biggest shift is this: we start paying attention. Not in a restrictive way, but in a caring way. Choosing what we drink becomes less about habit and more about how we want to feel—today and tomorrow.

So now, I try (emphasis on try) to be a little more intentional. More water. Smarter choices. Still enjoying my favorites—because life is meant to be enjoyed—but with a bit more awareness.

As I keep writing and sharing here, I’ll be talking more about all of this—the little things, the realizations, the “why didn’t anyone tell me this sooner?” moments that come with aging. Because doing it well isn’t about perfection… it’s about figuring out what works for you and feeling your best along the way.
